Sunday, Bloody Sunday - intro riff

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today we are going to cook us a tasty riff.
Easy, fast preparation and no mess to clean up afterwards.

You'll need the following ingredients:

Bm
D
G6

B minor in root position

Make sure you get the following brand of B minor:

Bm

The first finger needs to barr across the highest 3 strings.
If the first finger only frets the F# the chord isn't quite ripe yet.

D in second inversion

This might suspiciously look like a standard, open position, "cowboy-campfire" D major chord.

And actually... it is.

However, here's the chef's secret - finger the chord like this:

That's what we call a smooth transition from Bm to D.

G6 in root position

Don't spend your hard earned money on some exotic version of G6.

All you need to complete your shopping for chords is a simple, fretted "D" note, surrounded by open strings.

Now for the preparation...

Arpeggiate and let ring, then arpeggiate and let ring some more.

Have I told you to arpeggiate and let ring already?

Yes?

Doesn't matter, arpeggiate and let it ring...

For the connoiseur

A sonic gourmet will also notice 2 things...

the tasty 16th note rhythm breaking up the 8th note monotony
the voice leading and how the lowest voice creates a simple, yet nice descending melody

Voila, yummie low calorie guitar riffing a la The Edge.
